I am in my 16th year of teaching here at Big Hollow. When I first began in 2003, I was the Reading and LA teacher. Since then we have grown tremendously and had the need to separate the subjects and have them each taught by two different specific teachers. I didn't know it when I was younger, but I quickly came to find out how much I loved writing and the rules of the English language! Now, we have come full circle and we are now teaching ELA- a combination block class of both reading and language arts! Besides being one of the 7th grade ELA teachers, I am also the middle school yearbook faculty adviser.
On a personal note, I have two children of my own. My son Ethan is 13 years old, and in 7th grade. My daughter is 9 years old and in 4th grade. My free time is usually spent with activities with them! My son plays travel soccer, so we are busy shuttling him to practices three times a week and games every weekend. My daughter also plays soccer, just not on such a competitive level. She also spends her time with different dance classes. I also enjoy watching TV when I can, I am secretly a reality tv show junkie! Especially if it is one of competition type ones! And of course I love to read.
ELA will focus on a good combination of both reading and writing. Students will have various projects and essays to write about what they are reading and/or researching. We are excited to have Chrome Books in our class and available to us on a daily basis. We will both do our part and work hard to use them to the best of our ability! I will do my part to keep you informed! I often send mass emails through Skyward when there are large assignments. I will also keep my homework updated on here as quickly as I can. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email. You will get the quickest response from me that way, but I can also call you if need be.
I look forward to another wonderful year, and being a part of your child's academic journey.
